Josh Gauntlett was, is, and will always be a music fan. Like many kids fortunate enough to have parents that encouraged him to explore the arts, he got his first taste of music education at the age of ten, when he picked up the alto sax. After learning the fundamentals of music theory in the Dexter schools concert band, he gravitated toward grunge in his adolescent years, and bought his first electric guitar to learn a few Nirvava riffs. At the age of 12, he began taking private lessons with beloved Detroiter and Sponge guitarist, Kyle Neely. Upon graduation from Dexter High, Josh attended the Berklee College of Music, honing his guitar performance skills under the advisement and mentorship of Jon Finn, Wayne Krantz, and Bruce Bartlett.
These days, Josh currently resides in Ferndale, Michigan with his fiancée, Lauren, and their cat-kids, Wilco and Max. To date, he has recorded two albums and performs as the bassist of the Ann Arbor-based ambient metal outfit, Scared To Death. As an avid songwriter and DIY musician, Josh takes every opportunity he can to write and play music at home, with the goal of recording one song per month this year, to complete his latest record, 2015. Focusing his professional musical efforts in the realm of music education, Josh teaches guitar, bass, and voice lessons at the Rock & Roll Prep School. There, he commits his students to studying music literacy, technique, theory, vocabulary, and most importantly FUN!
